Manipuri Classical Dance: A Beginner's Workshop

About this experience

Manipuri is one of India's eight classical dance forms and the gentlest of them: no stamping, no sharp angles, everything carried in a continuous curve. In this workshop a trained dancer teaches the basic chali movements, the hand gestures of the Raas Leela, and the body line that makes the style recognisable. You will also try on the potloi, the stiff cylindrical skirt worn in Raas.
