About this experience
Pung cholom is the drum dance that opens every Manipuri classical performance: the player dances while drumming, leaping and spinning without losing a beat. In this session a pung master demonstrates the form, teaches the basic strokes and rhythms on a practice drum, and explains how the pung's two heads are tuned with rice paste.
