About this place
Sendra is a rocky hillock rising from the middle of Loktak, joined to the mainland by a causeway. The climb to the tourist home at the top takes fifteen minutes and opens onto the full spread of the lake and its rings of athaphum. Sunrise here, with mist sitting in the phumdi channels and fishing canoes moving out, is the image most visitors come to Manipur for.
How to reach
12 km beyond Moirang, 57 km from Imphal via NH-150. Cabs run direct; shared transport ends at Moirang and a local auto covers the last stretch for ₹150–250.
Local tips
- Stay the night at the Sendra tourist home or a Thanga homestay to catch the sunrise.
- The causeway is narrow. Large vehicles should park at the base.
- Bring a telephoto lens; the athaphum rings compress beautifully.
