About this place
The state museum on the Polo Ground road holds Manipur's public collection: royal dresses and jewellery, the arms of the 1891 war, a strong ethnographic gallery of Naga and Kuki-Zo material culture, old manuscripts in Meitei Mayek, musical instruments and a natural-history section with a mounted sangai. A compact visit that makes everything else in the state legible.

- The Meitei Mayek manuscript case is easy to miss: it is on the upper floor.
- Photography needs the counter-issued camera ticket.
