The world's highest earthen dam, above terraced paddy
About this place
Singda, northwest of Imphal, is an earthen (mud-fill) dam often cited as the highest of its type in the world. The reservoir sits in a bowl of low hills with terraced paddy on the approach, and the crest walk at sunset is a favourite escape for Imphal residents.
How to reach
26 km from Imphal via Kangchup road; cab ₹1,200–1,500 return. No reliable shared transport.
Local tips
- There are no shops or toilets at the dam. Carry water and snacks.
- Leave before dusk; the return road is unlit and narrow.
- The paddy terraces are at their greenest in August and golden in late October.
