About this place
Near Tamenglong, the Barak river drops through a series of cascades (locally counted as seven) into rock pools ringed by dense forest. In full monsoon the noise carries far up the valley; in winter the pools clear to jade green and the site becomes a swimming and picnic place.
How to reach
150 km from Imphal to Tamenglong town (5–6 hours), then a local vehicle and a walk in. Overnight in Tamenglong.
Local tips
- Tamenglong's oranges are at their best in December. Buy them on the way.
- Do not swim during or after heavy rain; the river rises fast.
- There is no phone signal at the falls; tell someone your plan.
