About this place
Zeilad is a group of connected lakes inside a wildlife sanctuary in Tamenglong, sacred to the Zeliangrong people and wrapped in a legend of a giant python. The lakes hold turtles and migratory waterfowl, and the surrounding forest is thick, quiet and largely unvisited.
How to reach
About 25 km from Tamenglong town on a rough forest road; a 4WD and a local guide are effectively required.
Local tips
- Arrange a guide through the Tamenglong forest office or a local homestay.
- Respect the local prohibitions on fishing and on disturbing the turtles.
- Carry all food and water; there is nothing on the route.
